What This Is

This is a new 20 amp, 12 volt voltage regulator-rectifier for John Deere compact and lawn-garden equipment. It replaces John Deere part numbers AM101406 and MIA881279. John Deere catalogs it as "Voltage Regulator, 20 Ampere," but functionally it is a combined regulator-rectifier: it takes the alternating current produced by the engine stator, converts it to direct current, and holds the output at a safe 12 volt charging level (about 14.4 volts set point) so the battery charges without overcharging and the lights and electrics run steadily.

Fitment

This unit fits a wide range of John Deere machines built around the Yanmar diesel charging system. That includes compact utility tractors 670, 770, 790, 870, 970, 990, and 1070; lawn and garden tractors 322, 330, 332, and 415; front mowers F912, F915, and 2243; and compact skid steer loaders 375 and 3375. It does not apply to backhoes, balers, excavators, or motor graders, despite some generic listings suggesting otherwise. Because John Deere used more than one charging setup over the years, confirm your plug shape and terminal count match the five-pin pattern below before ordering.

Specifications

Output is rated 20 amps at 12 volts, with regulation around a 14.4 volt set point. The connector is a five-pin design: B+ (battery output), two AC terminals that take the alternating current from the stator, L (lamp or indicator), and IGN (ignition). This two-AC-input layout is what makes it a rectifier as well as a regulator.

What Is Included

You receive one (1) regulator-rectifier unit. Mounting hardware and wiring pigtails are not included; reuse your existing connector and mounting point.

Cross-Reference

Replaces John Deere AM101406 (the earlier service number) and MIA881279 (the current number). It also cross-references the Yanmar OE number 129150-77710, since these John Deere compacts use Yanmar engines and charging components. Use these numbers to confirm you are matching the correct regulator.

Ordering Guidance

Match this part by your five-pin connector and terminal labels (B+, AC, AC, L, IGN), not by model name alone, because John Deere ran different charging systems across model years. If your machine uses a four-pin or differently wired regulator, this is not the correct unit. When in doubt, compare your old regulator's connector to the photos before ordering.
