This pawl friction plate is a key component of the recoil (pull-start) starter system on Fits Briggs & Fits Stratton (B&S) small engines. Seated at the recoil starter hub, the plate works in conjunction with the starter pawls to engage the engine flywheel on each pull and release cleanly once the engine fires.
