This piston pin retainer (also called a wrist pin retainer or snap ring) secures the piston pin within the piston bore in Caterpillar 3300-series diesel engines. It locks the 1.700-inch diameter piston pin in place, maintaining precise piston-to-connecting-rod alignment under high heat and vibration during engine operation.
